(Last Updated On: March 24, 2016)

Have you suffered losses due to your investment in the LEAF Equipment Leasing Income Fund III or another LEAF fund? If so, the attorneys of The White Law Group may be able to help you recover your investment losses through FINRA arbitration.

In August 2015, LEAF Equipment Leasing Income Fund III filed a Certification and notice of Termination of Registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). It is unclear what significance and impact this may have had on investors.

Limited partnerships, like LEAF, are complex high risk products that are typically intended for sophisticated and institutional investors. Unfortunately, some brokers may have downplayed the risks associated with limited partnerships and mislead investors into thinking that they are “safe” investment products. The high sales commission brokers earned for selling Leaf may have provided some brokers with enough incentive to push this product to unsuspecting investors. Compared to your typical stock or mutual fund that offer 1%-2% commission, the commission associated with LEAF was 10.5%.

Many investors assume that their broker has their best interest in mind when making investment recommendations, unfortunately this is not always true nor is it necessarily a requirement. However, broker do have an obligation to make suitable investment recommendations that are consistent with the client’s age, investment objectives, investment experience, risk tolerance and financial needs.

When a broker misleads a client or makes unsuitable investment recommendations they can be liable for investment losses.
