Maria Duarte Pumariega, formerly registered with Wachovia Securities in Miami, Florida, barred from FINRA for securities fraud violations.
FINRA recently announced that Maria Duarte Pumariega, a financial advisor formerly registered with Wachovia Securities in Miami, Florida, has been barred from association with any FINRA brokerage firm in any capacity. The sanction was based on findings that Pumariega, without permission or authority, converted approximately $140,000 in customer funds for her own purposes.
In addition to being barred from FINRA, Maria Duarte Pumariega was also criminally prosecuted and convicted of grand theft in the 1st degree by the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida for her actions in the conversion of the client funds.
Prior to working as a stockbroker for Wachovia Securities, Maria Pumariega was a financial advisor with First Union Brokerage Services, Inc.

CP Capital Securities, Inc., a FINRA registered broker-dealer based in Miami, Florida, fined for securities violations.
FINRA recently announced that CP Capital Securities, Inc., a registered broker-dealer based in Miami, Florida, has been fined $21,500 for various securities violations. Without admitting or denying the findings, CP Capital Securities, Inc. consented to the entry of findings that it acted as the placement agent for a contingency offering of securities; failed to satisfy the minimum contingency of the offering by the closing date, failed to terminate the offering and return investor funds; extended the offering period; and raised additional funds, but failed to send written reconfirmation offers to investors regarding the extension and material updates prior to the closing date. The findings further stated that the CP Capital Securities, Inc. failed to establish a proper escrow account in connection with the offering and directed a premature release of investor funds from the escrow account prior to satisfying the offering contingency requirements. CP Capital Securities also made improper payments to non-registered foreign entities for referrals of customers, nor did the firm obtain written acknowledgement of the existence of the compensation arrangement. Finally, the findings also included that CP Capital Securities failed to implement its anti-money laundering compliance program, in that it failed to monitor transactions for red flags.
According to CP Capital Securities FINRA Broker Report (CRD), this is not the first time the firm has been fined by FINRA. FINRA fined CP Capital Securities $5,000 in 2004 for violations of the Florida Securities Act (Fla. Stat. 517).
According to CP Capital Securities’ website, CP Capital Securities’ clears its trades through National Financial (NF), a fully owned subsidiary of Fidelity Investments. CP Capital Securities further claims that this provides it with direct access to Institutional FundsNetworkSM, one of the industry’s largest fund platforms.

Roberto Etiel Rodriguez, formerly of Leumi Investment Services Inc. in Miami Beach, Florida, barred from FINRA for securities violations.
FINRA recently announced that Roberto Etiel Rodriguez, formerly of Leumi Investment Services Inc. in Miami Beach, Florida, has been barred from the securities industry in any capacity. Without admitting or denying the findings, Roberto Rodriguez consented to findings that, acting in concert with an unregistered individual, he executed an unauthorized transfer of $133,956 from an inactive bank account held at an affiliate bank of his member firm (Leumi Investment Services) to an unrelated third-party account at another financial institution, without the authorization or knowledge of the bank or anyone exercising control over the account.
Rodriguez was terminatd by Leumi Investment Services and his conduct resulted in an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Leumi Investment Services Inc. is a FINRA registered broker-dealer based in New York City, and is affiliated with the Bank Leumi Le Israel. According to its FINRA Broker Report (CRD), Leumi Investment Services, Inc. has been named in three regulatory events, but has not been the subject of any reportable customer complaints related to securities fraud.
According to its website, Bank Leumi le-Israel B.M. was founded in 1902 and is the preferred gateway to Israel for international executives and investors. The website further stated that, within Israel, the bank actively supports all key sectors of the economy with a full and innovative range of financial services. Finally, the firm’s website claims that the Leumi Group, an investment division of the bank, serves clients around the world through more than 300 branches and offices in Israel, major world financial centers in 21 countries, and a broad network of correspondent banks.

Jorge Gerardo Pereira, formerly of Synergy Investment Group, LLC in Miami, Florida, suspended from FINRA for various securities violations.
Jorge Gerardo Pereira, formerly of Synergy Investment Group, LLC in Miami, Florida, suspended from FINRA and fined $5,000. Without admitting or denying the findings, Pereira consented to the entry of findings that, without customers’ authorization, he falsified their signatures and affixed them onto delivery assurance forms for financial plans, a change of beneficiary form, a mutual fund disclosure form and a bank draft authorization form.
According to Jorge Gerardo Pereira’s FINRA Broker Report, FINRA’s investigation is not the first time that Pereira had been implicated in matters related to securities fraud. Pereira has also been named in at least 5 customer complaints related to securities fraud and securities violations.
Jorge Gerardo Pereira was previously registered as a broker with Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. and IDS Life Insurance Company.

James Stephen Eckes, of Parrish, Florida (outside of St. Petersburg), barred from FINRA for securities violations including unauthorized trading.
According to a recent FINRA announcement, James Stephen Eckes, of Parrish, Florida, barred from FINRA and ordered to pay $1,611 in restitution to a customer. The sanctions were based on findings that Eckes effected unauthorized transactions in a customer’s account, and communicated with a customer using a personal email account without obtaining permission from his member firm to use the outside account.
